
Committees
USCAP Committees serve the Academy’s mission, strategy, governance and operations, representing a collaborative, informed, fluid, communicative leadership infrastructure.
Executive CommitteeActs for the Board and may exercise the authority, powers and rights of the Board in the interim between regular and special Board meetings, except for amendment of Bylaws, filling of vacancies in any office, regulation of compensation of any officer, or hiring/firing the EVP.
Board of DirectorsManages the business and affairs of USCAP, except as otherwise required by the District of Columbia Nonprofit Corporation Act, the Articles of Incorporation or the Bylaws. The Board represents the governance of USCAP.
Education CommitteeCreates the scientific program, exclusively governs educational content for all educational assets of the Academy, performs program evaluations, and safeguards educational content from commercial bias through a complex disclosure mechanism. Several subcommittees assume delegated responsibilities for program design and evaluation.
Course DirectorsThe Education Committee assigns course-directors to organize individual educational offerings at the Annual Meeting and for Diagnostic Cytopathology Update, Diagnostic Pathology Update, Practical Pathology Seminars and Interactive Microscopy.
Finance CommitteeReviews and advises the Board regarding budgets, audits, investment policies and major expenditures. This committee has liaison responsibilities between operations and governance.
Membership CommitteeCollaborates with the EVP and operations to develop strategic initiatives regarding member engagement and benefits, promoting members for life. Resident Advisory and Social Media Subcommittees facilitate membership outreach.
Publications CommitteeAdvises the Board/EVP regarding editorial policies, quality standards, marketing strategies, and editorial personnel for the Academy’s journals, and annually interfaces with representatives from operations and Nature Publishing Group to assess the status and strategic options of the journals.
Foundation CommitteeAdvises the Board/EVP regarding the philanthropic activities of the Academy including review of grant proposals, categorization of gifts, allocations of funds and donor campaigns.
Nominating CommitteeFormulates a slate of names for Board approval for elected positions.
Awards CommitteesThere is no single USCAP committee to govern awards selections. Individual awards are associated with their own unique committees responsible for their administration, but these committees are coordinated by the EVP.
RepresentationUSCAP members represent delegates to other organizations and fulfill liaison functions with them to create an Academy presence outside the organization and facilitate communication and information flow.
